Well, I finally was able to get the BRCA gene test covered by my insurance company. The results came back that I have the BRCA2 gene mutation. My oncologist recommended a total hysterectomy since my risk of gynocologic cancer is so high. Also, there are not great tests to detect those cancers therefore the chances of finding it before it getting to a late stage is diminished. So, since I am not using my uterus and ovaries anymore, I would prefer not to put myself at the increased risk.
My surgery is scheduled for June 24th. It will be done robotically which will lessen the pain and recovery time.
